New Season, New Prank…

Hello all! Our team has been hard at work this past week. However that does not mean we do not know how to have fun!

We told one of our Frolings that several FRC teams have been complaining about how there not enough holes in the balls that FIRST gave them. He graciously volunteered to count to make sure all our balls were good. Several team members were in on the prank.

As you can probably guess he was not to happy to hear that it was just a prank…

Steampowered! Steampowered! STEAMPOWERED!

Holy Guacamole! Kickoff is here!

As I am sure you know Kickoff was on Saturday, and despite the snow blizzard,  we refused to be stopped!

On Saturday, after watching the FIRST kickoff video, we broke into small groups to discuss the rules and made sure that everyone has a basic understanding of them, before you continue reading this post watch the Steamworks game animation to get a better understanding of what’s happening:

On Sunday, we discussed the type of robot we want, and how we are going to play the game. We also played the ever so fun game of “Robot Yogo” to help further our understanding of the game.

If you would like to see the entertaining video of 2017 Steamworks Robot Yoga, here it is:

All in all, it was a very productive weekend filled with preparations for the next 6 weeks! We wish all teams the best of luck!

Night Before Kickoff!

Hello All! One of our wonderful mentor, Kevin, decided to send the team a little message. It was so funny that we decided to share. We hope you enjoy!

Twas the night before kickoff,
And all through the lab,
Not a creature was stirring,
Not even team CAD.

Components were hung in the pit cart with care,
In hopes that Dean Kamen soon would be there.

The tools were all nestled, all snug in their drawers,
While visions of exhaustion tormented mentors.

And Harsh in his kerchief, Jimmy James in his cap,
had just settled their brains, for a long winters nap.

When out in the shop, there arose such a clatter,
I sprung from my coding to see what was the matter,
Someone hurt in the shop, I feared to my core,
I sprinted the hall and rolled up the door!

The light on the flecks of the pile of shavings,
Have the sparkle of diamonds for students behaving!

When what do I suddenly see with a gasp,
But 8 reindeer wearing safety glass!

With a tiny old driver, so lovely and lean,
I knew in a moment, it surely was Dean!

More rapid than ninjas they all donned their gloves,
He whistled, and shouted, while they covered their hooves.

Now Matthew, now Kady,
Now Kelly and Ian,
On Emily, on Abhi,
On Eric and Ethan!

To the top of the pit!
To the edge of the field,
But look both ways and to avoid a crash yield!

As I shook up my head, and was turning around
Down the fume hood Woody Flowers came with a bound!

He was dressed all in FIRST gear from his head to his foot,
And a full set of safety glasses, gloves, and boot.

A tote full of parts followed behind,
And crazy new game rules which blew my mind!

His glass how they twinkled, his gloves how supple,
His bumpers were perfect, his gear ratio doubled!

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And fill’d all the part kits; then turn’d with a jerk.

And laying his finger aside of his nose
And giving a nod, up the fume hood he rose he rose.
And Dean sprung to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew, like the down of a thistle:
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight‍—‌

Happy Kickoff to all, and to all a good night!!

Comcast Boot Camp

screen-shot-2016-12-11-at-5-39-54-pmAt Team 5401 we are all about learning anything that other teams can teach us! This Sunday, we took part in the amazing learning opportunity that Comcast Building had to offer! We went to the boot camp hosted by team 272. It was a great time for mentors and students alike,  and allowed us to talk to the judges and other teams!
