Week 1: New Year, New Robot!
Team 5401 has been gearing up for this new season to kick off since the end of last’s season. Over the summer we held training classes for new and returning members. Students could choose either to practice working in the metal shop, learning programming, CAD or all of the above! Our biggest off-season moment was finally getting a new mill. Our mill was so old, it was around when the Burger King was still a Burger Prince *budum-tst*. Joking aside, “Big Green” was 67 years old but served us well. We are glad to retire him for our not-yet-named new mill.
Now that kick off has begun we are out of the past, thinking of how to make our robot better than the last. (In case you missed it, here’s the game reveal video that was played at kickoff) Before coming up with our overall game strategy and robot design, we began building the field elements. It gives physical examples of how we are going to gear up and plan for this upcoming season as well as practice once we have our finished product. We would like to thank all the dads for coming in and helping us build these field elements for our practice area; it helps immensely.
We came together to officially come up with our robot design and strategy in just the first couple of days of the season. Already, we have begun cutting and milling pieces. They are both pretty awesome! What do you think?
That’s all for week one. Stay tuned for next week’s update. In the mean time, follow us on social media, links are on the home page! Please check them out and like/follow! GO FRO!!
