What is Content Planning
It is the process of developing and executing a strategy to create and publish high-quality content on social media. It involves identifying your target audience (which is likely to be other students, parents, and teachers in your school and community) understanding their needs and interests, and creating content that is relevant and engaging.
Why is it Important?
First, it helps you to save time and effort by allowing you to plan and schedule your content in advance. This can free up your time to focus on other tasks.
Second, social media content planning helps you to improve the consistency of your social media posts. By having a plan in place, you can ensure that you are posting regularly and that your content is relevant to your audience.
Third, social media content planning can help you to increase engagement on social media. By regularly posting high-quality content that is relevant to your audience, you can attract and retain followers. Additionally, by planning your content in advance, you can ensure that you are posting at the best times to reach your audience.
Finally, social media content planning can help you to achieve your social media goals. Whether your goal is to increase brand awareness for your team, promote upcoming events, or recruit new members, social media content planning can help you to develop and execute a strategy to achieve your goals.
How to Create a Content Calendar
- Make a Calendar. Use a a project management tool with as calendar feature or just use a basic Google Calendar
- Decide on a posting schedule. Once a week is a good place to start but make sure you choose a frequency you'll be able to realistically support.
- Brainstorm content ideas. Here are some examples of content that you can plan:
- Behind-the-scenes photos and videos of your team building and testing your robot
- Interviews with team members about their experiences on the team
- Announcements about upcoming events and competitions
- Educational content about robotics and STEM
- News and updates about the robotics industry
- Inspirational stories about other robotics teams
- Add the ideas to the calendar. Put a month of post ideas on the calendar. This will allow to batch create and schedule them for an entre month. Ex. you would do this for October's posts in September.
Have a Special Plan for Competitions or Events
- Establish a Social Media Manager for the competition/event. They will oversee the plan for the event and assist in executing the plan day of.
- Establish your goals for the competition/event. Here are some examples:
- Inform parents and school community about the event in advance so they can plan to attend
- Post match schedule and post-match updates so people not in attendance can follow along
- End of day recap posts that summarize how your team did that day
- Designate Day of Social Media Team. These will be the individuals capturing photos and creating the content that you post. They will also monitor for comments etc on social media and interact accordingly
- Plan out content for each channel. Example:
- Instagram will be a story for each match and an end of day recap post with pictures.
- Facebook will be posting any exciting match updates/moments and also an end of day recap.
- TikTok will have clips of team, event, everything, under a cinematic audio to post at the end of each day.
- Create a plan template. Use it for each competition and have it printed out so everyone on the Social Media team knows what to do day of.
